Donner Pass is located about an hour from Camp Augusta in northern Sierra Nevada in Truckee, California.  The area is home to various recreational opportunities like climbing, skiing, hiking, and swimming; as well as offering rich historical preservation.  Native Americans living there hundreds of years ago left behind petroglyphs (pictures carved into rock) for us to see today.  Abandoned train tunnels from the First Transcontinental Railroad are sprawled among the vast mountains and rocks in Donner Pass. The Pacific Crest Trail runs around Donner Pass, providing ample opportunities for hikes and summits to explore.  Donner Lake is roughly 9 miles away, and can be seen most anywhere from the pass.

The climbing offered in Donner Pass ranges from small granite boulders to large cliffs hundreds of feet tall!  Campers will learn a series of technical skills such as knot tying, belay techniques, rope management, gear placement, and climbing history.  Campers will gain significant climbing experience while challenging themselves to reach new heights. Our group will be guided by a certified climbing instructor by the American Mountain Guides Association. Staff counselors are Wilderness First Responder certified and will also offer campers extensive feedback regarding their personal growth and areas of challenge throughout the trip.

This expedition will focus on providing campers with a genuine wilderness experience while also learning climbing skills. Campers will gain skills and knowledge that give them confidence in wilderness settings, on both flat ground and on towering rock. Classic Camp Augusta touches of Wish, Wonder, and Surprise will round out the journey.
